In March 2023 Norway’s Healthcare Investigation Board (Ukom) reported that the evidence for puberty blockers and hormonal and surgical sex-rejecting procedures in children and young people is insufficient, and recommended those treatments be defined as experimental (utprøvende behandling). It also called for the national guideline to be revised.
The Directorate of Health has not replaced the 2020 guideline. Oslo University Hospital said in 2024 that puberty blockers and hormones remain available through the national treatment service while a clinical study is being planned.
Schools. The national curriculum LK20 is comprehensive sex education. After 7th grade, samfunnsfag requires pupils to reflect on variation in identities, seksuell orientering and kjønnsuttrykk, and boundaries tied to feelings, body, gender and sexuality.
