There is no federal statute as of 2026 forbidding puberty blockers, opposite-sex hormones, or surgeries on minors.
On 7–10 May 2024 the 128th Deutscher Ärztetag in Mainz adopted resolution Ic-48 (120 yes, 47 no, 13 abstentions — marked GENOMMEN). It calls on the federal government to permit those interventions in under-18s with GI/GD only in controlled scientific studies, with a multidisciplinary team, a clinical ethics committee, and after completed medical and especially psychiatric diagnosis. Results to be followed at least ten years.
The June 2025 AWMF S2k guideline (register 028-014, for Germany, Austria, and Switzerland) still allows puberty blockers after interdisciplinary indication. It is a consensus (S2k) guideline, not S3 evidence-based, and it is less restrictive than the UK, Sweden, and Finland.
