On 25 February 2022 the National Academy of Medicine adopted a press release (59 for, 20 against, 13 abstentions) warning of an “epidemic-like” rise in demand and stating that although puberty blockers and opposite-sex hormones remain possible in France with parental authorisation at any age, “the greatest reserve is required” given effects on growth, bone, sterility, and more. Psychological support first. No diagnostic test distinguishes durable dysphoria from a passing adolescent phase. Mastectomy is authorised from 14 — the Academy underlined that it is irreversible.
The academy told doctors to treat this pathway with the greatest reserve.
Schools. Article L.312-16 of the Code de l’éducation requires information and éducation à la sexualité in écoles, collèges, and lycées — at least three sessions a year, by age group. The ministry’s éduscol page implements that as EVAR / EVARS, including prevention of sexist, homophobic, and transphobic prejudice. That is CSE in schools.
